Guernsey - A better way of life

Education

Guernsey offers an exceptional education system with free schooling for all students up to the age of 18. There are also three private single sex colleges, taking pupils from age five upwards.

School attendance is compulsory from five to 16 and during the last year in primary school a selection process for secondary education takes place. Most children will be awarded a place at their nearest secondary school, but those who demonstrate high academic ability and aptitude will be considered for a place at either the island’s Grammar School or at one of the private colleges.

Post sixteen, all pupils can choose to continue their studies, either by working towards A levels at the Grammar School or the College of Further
Education, or by pursuing a vocational qualification at the College of Further Education. Pupils at the private colleges can continue to study at their own institution.

There are no universities in Guernsey, but many pupils decide to enrol on higher education courses in the UK.
